A drug lab has been uncovered in the suburb of Douglasdale in Johannesburg.

Two undocumented immigrants were arrested in the raid while police officers confiscated drugs and processing machinery estimated to be worth R80 million at the premises. Unlicensed firearms, and ammunition of high caliber firearms were also found. Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo says they executed a raid after observing and monitoring the plot for alleged suspicious activity.

The suspects who will appear before a local Magistrate’s Court are facing charges which include manufacturing of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to the province’s police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni more than ten drug labs have been discovered in the last five months in Gauteng. He says this is evident that they are making inroads in identifying and dismantling drug labs in the province.
