The Hawks are cutting off routes used to transport drugs in the Western Cape with mandrax tablets amounting to more than R4 million confiscated.
At least two vehicles from Gauteng were stopped on the N2 highway following a tip-off.
The Hawks say in the first incident a Mercedes Benz was stopped in Grabouw and at least 24 000 capsules estimated to be worth R840 000 was found. The drugs were hidden behind the back seat in a false compartment. A 35-year-old suspect was detained.
Later a VW Transporter was found with a 100 000 mandrax tablets also hidden in a false compartment under the flatbed. A 52-year-old driver was arrested.
The suspects are set to appear in court on Monday.
