The public and residents have been asked to help keep an eye on the stainless-steel railings that have been installed along the coastal walkway between Muizenberg and St James.
The City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayco Member for Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews says they are aware that these railings may be targeted by vandals but it’s the only durable material for an area so close to the sea. He adds that they did conduct an 18month trial before installing the rails on the rest of the walkway.
Night-time security patrols have been beefed up in the area.
The potential use of CCTV cameras to monitor and improve security for those enjoying the walkway is being investigated. Low level solar night lighting is also being considered.
