More suspensions are expected within the top structures of the Health Department.
The Daily Maverick reports that Health Minister Joe Phaahla has indicated that some action is anticipated which will impact the department’s capacity.
The online daily reports that the department had “already been sent some letters [from the SIU]”.
Which builds on concern that there’s more rot within the health department as the country deals with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigating Unit has told the Standing Committee on Public Accounts that former health minister Zweli Mkhize may have “possible conflicts of interest” in the appointment of Digital Vibes.
SIU head, Advocate Andy Mothibi told the committee that Mkhize may have been negligent when approving budgets in respect of the National Health Insurance and the Covid-19 media campaigns.
Digital Vibes was awarded R 122 million for the contract, which has since been declared irregular.
