Recipients of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant could have to wait even longer before receiving payment.
This delay follows the Department of Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu amending the regulations related to the grant.
According to the amendments, it would allow for more people to be able to apply for it.
Thousands of unemployed South Africans have become reliant on the small cash injection of the grant. Recipients were meant to receive payments to their bank accounts at the end of August.
The minister has also called for the grant to be increased to R642 per month.
