Wynberg residents and taxi associations have responded with mixed reactions following the City of Cape Town’s proposed changes to the area’s Public Transport Interchange.

Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas says the concept design for the proposed upgrades were presented to sub-council.

The new design proposes two mini taxi facilities situated to the north and east of the Wynberg train station, and will feature a new facility with two levels covering an area of roughly 25 000 square meters. The ground level would be used for taxis serving the Cape Town CBD, and the upper level for taxis serving the metro to south-east routes.

The Main Road Route Taxi Association rejected the City’s proposal.

The association’s rank manager, Amien Carlsen says considering the taxi politics still underway in Cape Town, the proposed changes is a recipe for total mayhem in Wynberg.
