A vacant Metro building next to Athlone train station caught alight this afternoon.

City Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says it’s alleged that the fire was started by someone who had been staying in the empty building.

A female was treated for smoke inhalation. The train station sustained no fire damage.
