Former National Assembly speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has handed herself over to the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate (ID). She arrived at the Lyttelton Police Station this morning in Gauteng.
It comes hours after she announced her resignation as speaker and MP. It also comes after her court bid to stop her arrest failed. She is accused of accepting bribes while being the defence minister. Mapisa-Nqakula has maintained her innocence.
She is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption. The State has indicated that it will not oppose bail in the case.
