Africa must take advantage of its oil and gas resources, regardless of the global push to abandon fossil fuels.
This was the charge from Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe.
He was addressing the African Energy Week conference underway in Cape Town.
The Minister claims that Africa is one of the continents that adds the least to global pollution.
But South Africa’s reliance on fossil fuels has already been highlighted as the biggest polluter in the region.
His speech comes after South Africa secured a R131 billion coal phase out deal United States, Germany, Britain, and France.
