Communities across the Cape Flats must be more proactive in alerting authorities to criminality.

This is the call from the Manenberg Community Policing Forum’s Deputy Chairperson, Vanessa Adriaanse. She was speaking as a five-year-old boy has died of his wounds after he was caught in gang crossfire in Manenberg on Monday night.

Little Ameer Abrahams was walking with his father to a local tuck shop when he was struck by a stray bullet to the back of his head.

Two other women were injured in the shooting. Meanwhile, three suspects, aged 24 to 31, have been arrested.

Adriaanse said that these tragedies should not be accepted as the norm.
