Former Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements in the City of Cape Town, Malusi Booi and nine co-accused will remain in police custody after appearing in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on fraud and corruption charges.

Their bail application has been postponed to Friday.

Booi and his co-accused were arrested this week for alleged corruption in the metro’s Human Settlements Directorate. Last year, SAPS raided Booi’s office seizing cellphones and laptops.

The state claims that the group was part of a criminal enterprise led by alleged underworld boss Ralph Stanfield and his wife.

Booi is accused of influencing tender outcomes worth over R850 million and receiving payments exceeding R4 million.
