The festive season has officially come to an end. Now we welcome the rush of the new year and schools reopening. The system favors the economically empowered but for many parents and leaners on the Cape Flats just having the basics of school supplies is hard to come by.

As the saying goes there is always light at the end of the tunnel. A two year strong initiative by the National Coloured Congress who for the past two days in several communities on the Cape Flats joined forces with the communities coming together to be the difference that they speak and wish for by providing free haircuts for the boys starting the academic year and not forgetting the girls too for the wash a blow.
