Tyron Philander, the younger brother of former Proteas cricketer Vernon Philander. This was confirmed by the Ravensmead Community Policing Forum. The 32-year old man was shot and killed on the corners of 7th Avenue and Webner Street.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Vernon Philander thanked the community for their messages of support and offering their condolences, “I would like to ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time…” he added. Furthermore, Philander kindly requested that the investigation be given the space to be fully investigated.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk says the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. No arrests have yet been made.
