The Lavender Hill community has been urged to stay indoors following an uptick in violence in the area. According to community crime group, the area has seen a flareup in heavy shootings over the weekend.

Ward councillor, Marita Petersen said that residents are frustrated regarding the gang violence that is happening because they can’t go to work without fearing for their lives. Parents have also expressed concern over the safety of their children because the shootings are random.

Petersen added that gang-violence creates a spillover into the Steenberg area, and the shootings end up crossing boundaries affecting more communities.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk says Muizenberg SAPS are investigating the murder of a 17-year-old male who was shot and killed on Thursday evening in Military Road.

The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
