The three suspects who recently robbed an Uber driver in Rylands in Athlone belong to the IGB gang in Hanover Park.

According to the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, the suspects were not seen in Hanover Park since the dash cam footage went viral on social media, exposing their faces and crime.

The municipality’s Safety & Security Investigations Unit (SSIU) traced the men to a park in Mitchells Plain where they were nabbed.

He says “On their way to Athlone Police Station, the unit managed to ascertain more information about the whereabouts of the e-hailing driver’s stolen cellphone and who it was sold to. The phone was retrieved.

The knife wielding suspects aged between 18 and 21 are set to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
