The swift reaction by Khayelitsha SAPS to a hijacking complaint led to the arrest of a man facing multiple charges.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, officers received information about a possible Toyota Quantum hijacking in Site B. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a man discarding what appeared to be a firearm.
A 9mm Norinco pistol with four rounds of ammunition were recovered. SAPS also found five men in a dispute over passenger transportation. A 25-year-old victim reported being shot in the leg by the suspect.
The suspect was arrested for attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. He is set to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
