The Kannaland Municipality is no longer functional after its top-ranking members have been ousted. This is according to the ANC in the Western Cape.
Earlier this month, Kannaland mayor and convicted rapist Jeffrey Donson was slapped with a vote of no confidence. His deputy Werner Meshoe along with several others from the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (Icosa) were also ousted. As a result, the ANC broke its coalition.
ANC Western Cape spokesperson Sifiso Mtsweni says the problem at hand is that Icosa won’t cooperate with the DA, and the ANC won’t work with the DA.
The party has since called for the entire region to be placed under administration, and for the provincial government to intervene.
