Youth in South Africa are continuing the struggle of their 1976 forebears, but their challenges have been driven by economic oppression.
This as thousands of children are reliant on social grants, or don’t have access to quality education.
This year South Africa is marking June 16th under the theme, “accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future”.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile will lead the National Youth Day commemoration in the Free State this afternoon.
Each year since 1994, June 16th recognises the struggles of the youth of 1976 and celebrates the impact they brought to the liberation of the country.
Meanwhile, Radio 786 station manager, Tashreeq Truebody has hailed the long-standing tradition of handing over the airwaves of 100.4fm to the youth of this community.
He says that this is a testament to the station’s investment in the community it serves.
