Eskom would not be able to afford an expansion of capacity in generation project to produce solar energy.

Energy Expert and Professor of Technology Management, David Walwyn says Treasury is constantly pushing Eskom to use the money it does have to improve its network and build new transmission capacity which is the immediate need for the country’s energy supply.

This means that Independent Power Producers would be the only option to fund solar energy farms with battery storage to help alleviate the burden Eskom is dealing with.
