The International Federation of Medical Student Associations (IFMSA) has suspended the Federation of Israeli Medical Students (FIMS) for two years as the Israeli continues its genocidal war on Gaza.

In a statement IFMSA says the decision to suspend was due to the dire nature of the allegations levelled against FIMS, which includes threats against medical students, online harassment and hate speech.

The suspension was passed by a two thirds majority. A Brazilian organisation had initiated the attempt to suspend, originally seeking to pass a resolution to oust FIMS, but this was rejected.

The Israeli federation could face permanent removal from the international forum if the decision is not reversed or remains unchanged. The matter will be reviewed in August 2026.

FIMS will require a two-thirds majority to regain its membership. For more than ten months, Zionist Israel has deliberately worked to obliterate Gaza’s health care system.

It has murdered and terrorised doctors as well as other medical personnel. It has attacked hospitals – turning them into death zones – and denied Palestinians medicines and medical equipment.
