Stellenbosch University is taking further steps to address racism at the institution.
It has appointed former Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe as commissioner to conduct an independent inquiry into allegations of racism.
He is expected to make recommendations to the institution’s vice-chancellor on improving Stellenbosch’s “culture of diversity, equity and inclusion with reference to the racism that will safeguard and promote the dignity and self-worth of all students and staff”.
The investigation includes two incidents of alleged racism that occurred recently.
One of which saw a white student urinating on a black student’s laptop, and calling him “boy” in the process.
