Indian migrant workers have now been included in the country’s mass Covid-19 vaccination drive.
Migrant workers make up one-fifth of India’s 100-million workforce and have struggled to get health assistance from the government. In the state of Kerala, a three-day camp was held to inoculate workers.
Out of the 300 000 migrant workers on record, the Indian government has given some 34 000 workers their first dose of the vaccine, and about 1000 their second dose.
At the start of the global pandemic, migrant workers were the hardest hit due to imposed lockdowns and businesses having to close down.
