Three people have been nabbed in Gauteng for trying to avoid paying customs duties and VAT.
The police’s K9 unit and narcotics officers arrested the trio following a tip off that they were trying to divert goods.
The police’s Colonel Dimakatso Sello says that the information led them to a storage facility where a consignment of poultry meat weighing 27 000kg was found loaded in a truck.
One of the suspects had attempted to evade arrest, and tried to bribe an officer with R 800 000.
The officers were then led to another company that could not provide the legal papers justifying a consignment of imported poultry meat.
