Just last year South Africans were praising President Cyril Ramaphosa for his measured leadership as the country began its battle against the Covid-19 pandemic. But the cracks soon started to show.
Allegations of corruption in the Health Department surfaced, there was discord over lockdown regulations, and the bungling of the country’s vaccine acquisition are just a few examples. But the events in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng earlier this month have once again highlighted President Ramaphosa’s response to crisis situations – is he our best bet in a volatile situation?
