Mystery surrounds how an adult female Cape Fur Seal landed on Jakes Gerwel Drive near Gatesville on Wednesday morning.

Animal welfare group, SPCA has since removed the mammal and taken it into its care.

The incident has gotten social media “sleuths” speculating about how it got there while others tried to determine its destination.

Seals are semi-aquatic, which means they can spend a portion of the day or even longer on land. Seals leave the ocean for several reasons including to rest, give birth, and molt.
