The Ashura Feeding is incorporated in Radio 786’s Shifaa Project.  Now in its third year, the project aims to provide needy South Africans with a warm meal on the Day of Ashura (10 Muharram).

Radio 786, in collaboration with Muslims for Humanity and various other organizations across South Africa, provided 100 000 meals in 2021 and doubled this to 200 000 meals in 2022.

To achieve this, Radio 786 and its partner feeding organizations cooked for- and provided a meal to 30 000 people in the Western Cape, at a cost of R200 000.

Distribution of the meals was on Tuesday 9 August 2022 and included the following areas:

Bonteheuwel / Heideveld / Manenberg / Bridgetown / Delft / Langa / Khayelitsha / Ocean View
