eThekwini has been the hardest hit as heavy rains batter KwaZulu-Natal.
Speaking to Radio 786, KZN’s emergency services spokesperson Robert Mckenzie says tragic scenes are playing out. He explains that not only are roads flooded but landslides have blocked roads. Attempts to evacuate people have also proven to be challenging with KZN authorities calling on neighbours located on higher ground to open their doors to assist those stranded. People who have evacuated have been sheltered in community halls.
The military has been called in to provide aerial support.
At least two people are reported to have lost their lives while two others are said to be missing after their car was swept away.
