Extra police have been deployed to Bishop Lavis in the Cape Flats, following a mass shooting incident of Thursday, where seven people were killed.

Three suspects have since been arrested and are facing charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The shooting is suspected to be gang related.

Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC, Anroux Marais said that while provincial units are being deployed to affected areas, there’s an urgent need for improved crime intelligence at the municipal level.

Marais noted that while police are performing well, they are severely understaffed.

Authorities are continuing their investigations into both incidents.

Meanwhile, the additional deployments will remain in the area as a form of stability.
