The Head of Eskom’s energy transition department, Mandy Rambharos has resigned.
Her resignation comes just a day after Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan announced changes to Eskom’s leadership board.
Rambharos was expected to be a key role player in negotiations to secure more than R150-billion from wealthier countries to fund the closure of the utility’s coal stations and new green energy projects.
She however, has not disclosed the reason for her stepping down.
In response, Energy Analyst Chris Yellend says Rambharos’ resignation comes as a major blow to Eskom, as well as South Africa’s hopes of making inroads in an energy transition.
