A firearm was the weapon of choice for most of the murders in the Western Cape during the first quarter.

This is according to the latest crime stats.

Between April and June this year, nearly 500 people were killed in the province.

Provincial police commissioner Thembisile Patekile says this staggering numbers are a concern for police because during that same period, more than 600 guns were also confiscated.
