Gugulethu residents have more faith in their neighbourhood watch than they do in the police. This is the sentiment shared by the local Community Policing Forum’s chairperson, Thembinkosi Mjuza.
He was speaking as they have made a call for the neighbourhood watch to be granted more powers, as their mandate is limited in the fight against crime.
The community is still reeling following the murder of eight people in Gugulethu last month, with little progress made in the case.
The situation in Gugulethu has been made worse by the police’s poor resources.
