Green Bean Stew / Bredie

INGREDIENTS 

  • 1kg lamb stew pieces (with bone for extra flavour)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large onions finely chopped
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 3 all spice
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic and ginger
  • 2-3 tablespoons Sprinkles Pepper Roast Spice

or

  • 1-2 tablespoons coarse black, white pepper and bbq spice (or to taste)
  • 4 whole peeled large potatoes
  • 2 small, grated tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Mrs balls chutney(optional)
  • 1kg cut green beans
  • Salt to taste

METHOD

Chop the green beans to your preferred size.

Braise the onions in butter until golden brown.

Add the meat, sugar, red chilli, and all spice and braise on a medium heat for 15 minutes (do not add water) Cover and cook on a low heat until meat has browned, and the onions are caramelized. Add the potatoes, garlic, garlic, and ginger, spices and chutney, tomato, and mix until the meat is well coated. Cover the meat with boiling water and cook on a low to medium heat, covered for 30-40 minutes, depending on the size of your meat and potatoes. The meat and potatoes should be semi soft.

Add in the green beans, salt to taste, and little bits of water if needed, simmer on a low heat for 15-20 minutes.

Serve with fluffy white rice.
