The person believed to be behind the killing of a 26-year-old policeman in Grassy Park has been arrested.

The local police station’s spokesperson Captain Wynita Kleinsmith says a firearm has been recovered. The suspect who was arrested in Ravensmead is said to be affiliated to a gang.

Constable, Ashwin Pedro and his partner were responding to information about an armed suspect in Blackbird Avenue. Police say during an altercation with the suspect Pedro was shot in the chest.

The Hawks are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
