Over population and the government’s slow Covid-19 vaccine rollout have been cited as the main drivers behind Gauteng’s drastic spike in Covid-19 infections. This is according to the Vice-Chairperson on Structures and Recruitment for health worker union Hospersa Marcus Sefoloshi.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura previously noted that hospital admissions have been doubling every day – putting strain on the provincial health system. Medical personnel from the military have now been deployed to lend a hand to ease the burden.
Sefoloshi also criticised the state for failing to target Covid-19 hotspot areas first when rolling out its vaccine programme.
