French multinational retail giant, Carrefour, has ceased operations in Oman as of Monday. This follows the closure of all its branches in Jordan two months ago.

The decision comes amid a global anti-Israel campaign led by the Palestinian BDS National Committee, protesting Israel’s actions in Palestine. Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in the Arab world, cited substantial financial losses and reputational damage due to the boycott.

The campaign, which began in December 2022, has intensified following Israel’s war on Gaza, leading to widespread protests and a sharp decline in consumer confidence.

Carrefour’s exit from Oman marks another victory for the BDS movement, highlighting the growing impact of global activism on multinational corporations.
