Four gang members have been convicted and sentenced for the murder of a civilian in Athlone.

The robbery and murder took place in July 2018. The Western Cape High Court found that the four members of the Wonder Kids gang, Chad Heugh, Owen Hendricks, Marcelino Du Plessis, and Dale Swartz were guilty on charges of murder, robbery, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, amongst others.

Swartz was handed a life sentence and 22 years imprisonment. He will serve these sentences concurrently. The others have each been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
