Four suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers have been killed and one injured during a shootout with police along Nasrec Road in Soweto.

The cash van was driving along Nasrec Road when the crew came under gunfire on Friday.

The driver reportedly managed to continue driving until the van came to a standstill on Juskei Road, where the suspects robbed security guards of their phones and a firearm before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad spotted the suspects in a get-away white BMW and gave chase, resulting in a shootout.

The injured suspect was arrested.
