Five pupils from Pinelands High School have been sanctioned after a racist incident where they “auctioned off” their black classmates.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed that the School Governing Body’s disciplinary process has concluded.

The sanctions include workshops, written assignments, apologies, and community service. The measures aim to foster understanding of the incident’s gravity and its historical context.

The school said that it remains committed to promoting non-racialism and diversity.

The pupils, previously suspended, returned to school last month.
