The first convoy of United Nations (UN) aid for Syria has reportedly crossed the north-western Syrian border from Turkey.
According to officials, six Lorries carrying hygiene kits and other items had travelled through Idlib’s al-Hawa crossing meant for Syrian earthquake victims. It’s understood that the shipment was meant to arrive before the natural disaster.
Bab al-Hawa is the only border crossing that the UN is allowed to use to deliver aid to the region. The border is controlled by militant held areas.
The death toll in Syria stands at least 1900, with more people still believed to be trapped underneath the rubble of destroyed homes.
