It’s unlikely that government employees will receive an inflation-related wage increase if Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana leads wage negotiations.
The Public Servants Association (PSA), along with other unions and government are set to return to the Public Sector Coordinating Bargaining Council to break through the wage deadlock through negotiations.
It follows reports that Godongwana is set to take a more active role in public sector wage talks.
The PSA maintains that a 6.5 percent increase will help workers financially.
However, government has indicated that its 2 percent increase offer is final, with an extension of a R1000 gratuity.
