Eastern Cape authorities have rearrested a convicted rapist who escaped the Ngqeleni Correctional Centre on April 27.

Siyabulela Khohliso is one of two prisoners who escaped from the facility that day.

Khohliso was found in the Libode area.

Athini Nothi Mzingelwa is still on the run. Both prisoners are serving time for rape.

Department of Correctional Services commissioner, Makgothi Thobakgale says that eight officials who were on duty when the convicts escaped have since been suspended.

This as two others have been served with suspension notices.

Now this incident comes as there is growing concern about security at the country’s correctional facilities.

Parliamentarians have recently hauled the department and private security company G4S over the coals for massive failures at the Mangaung Prison.

This is the facility from which murderer and rapist, Thabo Bester had escaped last year.
