The DA continues to side with the Israeli settler colonial entity. It has reprimanded lawmaker Ghaleb Cachalia for not toeing the line after he posted on social media “I will not be silenced. Israel is committing Genocide. Full bloody stop”.  Leader John Steenhuisen has since fired him from the party’s so called shadow cabinet. The DA like many Western parties and states have condemned the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas for the October 7th Al Aqsa Flood operation and claimed that the oppressor Israel has the right to self-defence.

In a letter to Cachalia, Steenhuisen accused him of being defiant and fuelling division. Cachalia has said that he is considering his response after Steenhuisen’’s letter to him was leaked. This event exposes the DA’s doubles standards. In 2015 the DA’s Kohler Barnard was merely demoted for endorsing racism. She had shared a social media post that praised apartheid leader PW Botha.
