The Democratic Alliance has fired Renaldo Gouws from the party. He therefore ceases to be a member of Parliament.

The DA has been pressurised for welcoming Gouws into the party after publicly making racial slurs and glorifying Apartheid.

At the start of the 7th Administration earlier this year, Gouws’s racial comments were brought to the fore, with DA leader John Steenhuisen dismissing his hateful remarks as being that of a “young and ill-informed man”.

However, critics hit back saying that there is no excuse for that kind of language in South Africa, especially given its painful and racist past.

Speaking after the announcement of Gouws’ dismissal, DA national spokesperson Willie Aucamp affirmed that the party remains committed to upholding its values of accountability and non-racialism.
