The up-scaling of visible policing is bearing fruit.

Police Minister Bheki Cele says that this has been particularly effective in reducing the number rape cases in South Africa.

He was delivering the latest quarterly crime statistics, which cover January to March of this year.

While murder remains on the increase, sexual offenses are down by over 4% compared to the same period last year.
