City winds cause havoc in Tafelsig

The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre says that 25 households in Tafelsig were impacted by strong wind gusts overnight. These are made up of 20 formal dwellings and five backyard structures. The strong winds have affected over 110 people.

The City is also conducting assessments of the impacts on Khayelitsha. The Disaster Risk Management teams say that they will not be drawn on claims of a tornado striking these areas. It is waiting on the South African Weather Service to advise on had occurred.

The City’s Roads and Informal Settlements Management Departments are also conducting assessments in informal settlements in Dunoon, Strand, Khayelitsha, Belgravia, Overcome Heights and Gugulethu, following reports of flooding. In Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, an assessment found that 80 informal structures had been impacted by the rainfall overnight.
