A fight is looming between the City of Johannesburg administration and the national municipal workers union, Samwu.
This as the City has kicked off a process asking 135 workers to reapply for their jobs in the municipality.
Last month the council decided to overturn the appointments implemented by the previous administration.
It says that these posts were illegally upgraded from fixed-term contracts into permanent positions.
But some critics view this move as being politically motivated, as the appointments were made by the previous ANC-led City Council.
Samwu has now vowed to render Johannesburg ungovernable unless the City reinstates the affected workers.
