The City of Cape Town is investigating two senior managers in the Urban Waste Management directorate for alleged tender collusion.

News24 reports that the officials reportedly failed to disclose their positions on the boards of companies that were awarded a R186-million refuse removal tender.

The investigation follows media reports exposing the collapse of waste management services.

The implicated company is accused of not paying refuse collectors their full salaries, while the newly contracted company also faced payment delays. Allegations include wasteful expenditure, poor contract management, and ghost workers.

The City says it’s awaiting responses from the implicated managers before proceeding with charges.
