Disaster Risk Management officials are pumping out water logged settlements.
This, as teams have completed assessments in many informal settlements.
The worse affected areas include Nomzamo in Strand, Monwood, Kosovo, Philippi, Khayelitsha, Nyanga, Masiphumelele, Gugulethu and Mfuleni. Milling, sand and sandbags have been provided to affected households to raise the floor levels where possible.
Heavy downpours are expected to continue throughout the evening.
Meanwhile, Khayelitsha community leader Ndithini Tyhido has compared people living in shacks to dogs in a canal. He was speaking as the Cape is recovering from heavy rains that has lashed the region for two days.
It has once again highlighted the mass inequality in the region as well.
At least seven informal settlements have been affected by the heavy rains hitting the Cape.
