A 52-year-old teacher has been killed at Heinz Park Primary School in Philippi.

He was shot in the parking area while sitting in his vehicle. The shooting took place before 8am, ahead of the start of the school day.

Police say two suspects fled the scene.

The motive for the killing is still unclear at this stage. No arrests have yet been made.

The Western Cape Education Department says its shocked at this incident. It has extended its condolences to the teacher’s family, friends and school community. Counseling is being offered to learners and educators.
