Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is being urged to put a stop to austerity.
The minister who is set to deliver his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement has been warned that the further slashing of the budget in the midst of economic stagnation will only destroy the tools and resources needed to jump-start the economy.
Civil movement, Cry of the Xcluded says there needs to be a mass mobilization of state resources to pump life back into the economy.
It includes taxing the rich and big polluters, introducing a basic income grant of R1500 that meets the living needs of the unemployed, restoring the public transport system, moving towards a Just Energy Transition that aims to overcome the climate crisis and an Eskom that is transparent and accountable.
